The King Who Makes Things Happen
Mark’s account of the Triumphal Entry is concise yet rich with meaning. Jesus orchestrates every detail, instructing His disciples to fetch a colt in fulfillment of Zechariah’s prophecy (Zechariah 9:9). He speaks with clarity about events yet to unfold, demonstrating His sovereign control. This moment is a preview of His ultimate display of authority at the cross and resurrection. As John 10:18 declares, “No one takes [my life] from me, but I lay it down of my own accord. I have authority to lay it down, and I have authority to take it up again.”
The crowds in Jerusalem recognized Jesus’ authority, proclaiming, “Hosanna!”—a cry for salvation—and declaring Him the heir to David’s eternal kingdom (Psalm 118:26). Their shouts affirm Jesus as the promised King whose dominion is unrivaled. For us, this truth brings confident assurance: the promises Jesus made—about His return, our redemption, and our eternal home (John 14:2-3)—will come to pass because He is the one who makes things happen.
Application for Today
As Christians, we hold fast to the sovereignty of God in all things. Jesus’ authority in Mark 11 encourages us to trust His promises with unwavering faith. Do we live with the certainty that Jesus is preparing a place for us? Do we proclaim Him as King in our daily lives, submitting to His rule? Let us rest in the assurance that the One who rode into Jerusalem as King is the same One who holds our future.
Join us for part 2 as we explore Jesus’ authority in action through His cursing of the fig tree and cleansing of the temple.
